Sevadham Trust, a public charitable trust, is active in service to society through projects in the areas of Health, Education and other Socio-economics initiatives. Sevadham Trust's work in the area of Leprosy education and Aids control has been extensive and well appreciated.
Over the years Sevadham has been actively working over the entire state of Maharashtra either directly or through field organizations in its network. Sevadham has concentrated its efforts in hilly and difficult terrain of tribal area of 4 Tehsils, viz. Maval, Khed, Ambegaon and Junner of Pune district and entire Solapur district and less served areas of Kolhapur district. It is also working in nearly 50% of the slums of Pune city and Solapur city. What started of as one small hospital, has now grown into a large organization (one of the largest field and networking organization in health sector in Maharashtra). The Trust has various projects in the field of health, such as hospitals, static to mobile clinics, primary to intensive health care and leprosy eradication, TB control and AIDS prevention, care & support projects.
In the field of education the Trust conducts literacy campaigns, nursery schools, non formal schools and a regular residential school (Ashramshala) for tribals. It also conducts adolescent comprehensive training & special programme for children with emphasis on child rights & participation. Those programs are conducted in urban slums as well as in rural tribal area.
The Trust is also involved in socio-economic development and conducts vocational training, training for production units and self-help groups of women with a view to encourage small savings, internal loaning, linkage with banks and the establishment of small enterprises.
Keeping environmental needs in mind, the Trust has been involved in the planting of over one lac trees on private lands. It is also connected with watershed development programmes such as the Draught Prone Area Programme, CAPART, Indo-German Watershed Programmes, etc.
As a facilitator for other NGOs, the Government had accorded the Trust the status of Mother Agency, for its Information, Education and Communication Project for Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy for ten districts of Maharashtra. It was also the N.G.O. Nodal Agency for the AIDS Prevention Programme of the State of Maharashtra. It was also the Mother Agency for Reproductive and Child Health Programme (RCH) for eight districts of Maharashtra. The Trust continues to be in RCH Mother Agency, however with changed policy of Government it’s a Mother agency for 2 districts.
Trust is also a lead agency under Clinton Foundation’s project for children infected with HIV AIDS. Under Trust is covering children from fourteen districts of Maharashtra.
The Trust is recognized as an Educational and Research Institute by the Pune University. The Trust is recognized for placement of students of M.S.W. from Karve Institute, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Social Work College, Satara etc. Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Wardha has recognized Sevadham for placement of M.B.B.S. doctors for exposure in rural health. Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai has recognized it for internship of students of Master of Health Administration.
The Trust was included as member of the “Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria” set up by the Government of India, Ministry of Health, New Delhi.
