Artist Philip D’mello on India Art

Philip D’mello
Philip D'mello is wellknown as Vasaiwala amongst the paintings community. Philip hails from the village Agashi in vasai. The beautiful greenery has allotted a name Green Village to it. Philip had spent his career from his childhood upto present day in Vasai. Though after his school education he joined Bandra School of Art for his education in painting and joined Sir J.J. School of Art for his post diploma training in Art. Agashi remained his constant abode. He loves his village, its culture and the people. These have remained his subject of interest.

Philip had many solo shows and these subjects have remained a pivot of his thinking. Each exhibition is given to one or other facet of the culture of Vasai. His shows ‘Preservation' (1993), ‘Wedding Album' (1996), were related to Vasai Culture and its people. The solo show with the Title ‘Changing Moods' signified a change. Philip had several shows of which each was related to the problems of his village, the people and personalities related to it.

However his paintings in this show are related to his visit to Tamilnadu and Kulu-Manali. The portraits of the personalities met at Tamilnadu and the beauty of nature experienced at Kulu-Manali are presented in the landscapes. Both these subjects suggest that the painter's mind is searching different sources in wider areas. His portraits and landscapes in this exhibition will surely be appreciated.

The paintings in his former exhibition with superb colour schemes and stylized figures attracted the people who took interest in knowing culture of Vasai. Now this exhibition will present different approach to personalities and natural beauty.
