Aadhaar Mook Badhir Vidyaalay is an NGO dedicated to the development and rehabilitation of the hearing impaired. The school that started with only two students in an area of 100 sq. ft. has been growing like a banyan tree against all odds. Today it nurtures more than 100 students in an area of 4,800 sq. ft., equivalent to a school of approximately 1000 physically fit students.
Concept:
Knowledge is a boon to the society and every human being on this planet has a right to acquire it. No matter whether it is a boy or a girl, speech or hearing impaired, the feelings and the quest for knowledge is universal. There is no difference between a hearing impaired child and a physically normal child, except the hearing disability which leads to speaking disability. However, these children can see and feel, eat and drink, play and dance... and they can even cry, as any normal child does. Yes... their heart beats!
Noble Cause:
Only in the year 1991, 'Aadhaar Mook Badhir Vidyaalay' was accorded recognition by the Government of Maharashtra, India. In the same year, being the only residential school, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) initially offered a plot of 1,000 sq. ft. on lease for 50 years. In the year 1994, impressed by the kind work carried out by 'Aadhaar Mandal', PMC favoured them with another plot of 2,800sq. ft. on the same terms and conditions. Here a school was constructed with modern facilities to accommodate larger number of students.
Mission:
The mission behind the noble cause was to groom the hearing impaired children who are deprived physically and emotionally and are below poverty line. The dream was to further educate and train them vocationally so as to rehabilitate them socially and bring them into the mainstream of the society. This will boost their confidence to lead a noble independent life. Keeping this mission in mind, 'Aadhaar Mandal'dares to dream big. This dream is to enhance the capacity for larger number of beneficiary students and build up a central global database of the hearing impaired children for mutual co-operation and support. 'Aadhaar Mandal' wants to go ahead and provide Government recognized ITI courses for these hearing impaired students which will subsequently lead to make them independent as well as responsible global citizens.
Freedom:
'Aadhaar Mandal' is aware of the social responsibility of conviction and dedication, which they have taken up for this cause. It focuses on the issues related to the hearing impaired such as getting patronage of the Government and the kind society. The students at 'Aadhaar Mook Badhir Vidyaalay' are motivated and trained to become entrepreneurs by making items like files, liquid soaps, duster cloths, leather goods, book binding, eco-friendly cloth and paper bags, et al. and to market them locally to hospitals, hotels, industries and other individuals. Keeping the current trend, students are trained with knowledge of operating computers as well. This kind of Vocational training helps in the rehabilitation of the students.
